I picked up an old lamp base from the recycling centre, and paired it with a new shade I made after doing a class in Nancy’s Great Southern Tour.
The star of the piece is the gold styrene panel, which goes beautifully with the emperor moth fabric.

which fabric to choose...
FABRIC FAQ'S
How much fabric do I need?
For the workshop you will need 1/2 a metre of fabric that is at least a meter wide. Most fabrics are at least 1.4m wide but if you have a piece left over from another project double check the width to make sure you will have enough.
What type of fabric is best?
A sturdy cotton is perfect for lampshades - cotton drill or a 'decor weight' fabric works well. A lightweight upholstery fabric might also be a good choice. Not sure? get in touch!
What fabrics should I avoid?
Avoid quilting fabrics if you can. It can be hard to get a tidy finish with quilting fabrics as they are very lightweight and show every mistake...not very forgiving for beginners! Also avoid silk or satin and anything that is make for outdoor use as they often 'fight' the adhesive on the PVC panel and might not stick nicely. Also avoid anything with stretch.
Can I buy fabric from you?
Absolutely! If there is a fabric I've used for one of my lampshades and you would like to use it too, just let me know! I can bring fabric to the workshop for you...generally at a cost of approximately $25.

Really enjoyed the session. Just the right length of time and not too many people in the group so easy to get support. It was presented in a fun way too (both making it enjoyable and better to remember steps). A bonus is that at the end of it I had a new lampshade (which I love).Would totally recommend
We loved our afternoon learning all about shade making. Super helpful teacher with such a cool finished project. 🌟 Highly recommend

Loved the workshop - was a very fun afternoon with easy to follow instructions.
Definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed this class and so happy with my lampshade.
Absolutely loved attending the lampshade workshop held recently in Invercargill. Nancy and her mum are so lovely. Nancy is a great teacher, and I had so much fun making my lampshade. I’m definitely going to make another one!
Nancy provided a great workshop. Simple instructions, easy to follow even in a larger group, very well organised. Provided everything we needed apart from fabric, which was clearly c9mmunicated. Provided tips and tricks and further support if needed. Would do it again.
Thanks Nancy! It sure was a fun class and surprisingly easy to make a lovely lampshade!! 👌
I recently went to one of Nancys workshops and I loved it. I highly recommend attending one. I now have hands on experience and I am confident that I can make lampshades with no problems. Nancy was a fantastic teacher. I loved her bubbly personality and nothing was a problem to her. She is fantastic. If you are thinking of doing one of her courses go for it you will have fun and learn a new skill
